http://www.nolanfyfe.com/journals/journals.detail.php?jidn=69 Action speaks louder than words….make it happen ….. …talking about what you want is one thing but doing amazing things and other people talking about them is something else…don’t worry about others people lives and focus on how I can become a better, strong, wiser, richer person and the rest will follow and people will take notice! ...Your friends play a more important role than you realize. If your friends are bringing you down or the side of you that you’re not satisfied with like your weak link…change that link with one that is bringing you up and making you stronger. Notice that rich people hang around rich people, famous people hang around famous people, fast people hang around fast people. Poor people tend to group together as well as drunks and druggies…people are always trying to stay in there comfort zone. When you’re training, he’s not. When you’re reading, he’s sleeping. While your working and in the gym, he’s out drinking or gambling. While you have retired young or are in the fitness of your life, he has a hangover or is wondering where the time went and how somebody could be so focused and have achieved so much at such a young age. What he doesn’t realize is that it’s all in your head and he has only himself to blame and you have only yourself to thank! Its just living different realities. If you have pain or sadness in your life what are you doing about it? Is sitting around feeling sorry for yourself helping you feel better. Or what about using big lows and turning them around into big high’s. When you’re down in the grey point of your life or so it feels like. If you lost someone special..would they want you to be depressed or would they want to get motivated and get focused. Think how you could make them proud and what they would you to do.Get focused and think big and get there and you will look back in the future and think man that was hard but I learned from it and here I am smiling down and grateful for that experience. Use pain and sadness to drive you to something beyond your wildest dreams….. |

Being home today has been great. Antibiotics in my ear, business meetings, and going out on Whyte, would sum it up. Mind you there was a walk in their, before the business meetings, and also some work in the a.m. hours that shouldn't be forgotten about. I'll post about a couple of things, that came as really random. At the gym today I ran into a few guys that I knew in grade 9. That's one thing, but then me going out with them is another. Next minute I know we're at Squire's, and it's a reunion, like the last time I was there. Countless number of people from the park, combined with Scona, Earl's Crossroads, and Ainley Bio 20. My phone book has doubled in size, and I'm trying to settle my tab with Kenna, and then their is Adria and Amy. I was about to pull out my two for one coupons, before I decided it was time to let that joke die. Was it? Adria, you need to be watching out for Amy, and Amy, you need to be watching out for Adria. You two... So about to spin some yawns with Kenna, I squeeze my way in, and Nolan you'll get a kick out of this. Some random start hassling me about taking his spot, and asked if I was going to remain there. I just told him, "yep", and that was that. He then felt like it was necessary to settle the score, so he goes on. "Do you really think that you'll get service before me.". I looked the guy up and down a few times, and then behind the bar, I knew where he was going with this, so I said "yep". He then goes on about how noone in the world makes K.K. feel as good as he does, and I ricied him, and next minute I know he's putting a wager of $400 on this stupid, who can serve who first. "Yep". Next minute I know he says, "Hey Kenna, this guy thinks that you would serve him before me", Kenna looks over at me, and I ask politely "One Stella Please". As fast as he order I have a Stella in hand. Classless this guy, not able to admit defeat says to me: "Kenna knew that's what I was going to order you, I always order Stella, or Gin and 7up." When I should have walked away with the wankers money, I called it even for the drink. I was just their to settle my tab, and robbing the kid in the candy store just wasn't on my agenda. Geez though, I could have been their to learn the alphabet, although I kept getting stuck. A, B, C, D, D, D. Kenna. Nolan called it. Guys that make too much money in Oil and don't know what to do with it. I was even pointing people out to take advantage of it. It's money being spent either way, might as well get in on it. Adria! There was a fair share of ricies, recieving and handing out. What was with that girl trying to tell me that I had never lived in New Zealand. Ok my accent is gone, but ricies. All of a sudden you visit a country for a few weeks, and think that you can just start making calls like that. Wanker. I can only look at it, and... There really is not justification for it. People are just shallow at the best of times, and tonight proved just that. Tomorrow brings new opportunity, and there is never a point to stop trying, before your heart does. You know it, I know it; When I should have been fast asleep, I was running from one stop to the next trying to stay warm, and then dodgying it home. I don't know what I was doing with those mile repeats again, but even before that I should have been on and cyphering up the words for this post. The post for the 17th. I don't even know what today means to you anymore. March 17th, everyone is wearing green, you? It's your 20th, and I'm excited for you. Of course I miss you, and heaps else, but Happy Birthday, and like every other I thought of you this day. Now I'm left with days counting down until the 24th, and then there is 1.5 continually being added to. Phenomenal. I said it. I wish my magical poem would have worked out, but magic and I haven't been the best of mates lately. Today though, is special because of you. |

PermaLink - Mar 15, 2006
March 15th I'm sitting, more dolled up then I've been in over a week, and ready for my last night out in Houston. It's been over 4 weeks now, and I'm coming home. Ozzy osbourne said it best, so I'll leave it at that. I'm waiting for Al to come back so we can go out. That monkey, Probably one of the least punctual people you will ever meet, actually probably the opposite. We're going to go out to Mo Mong tonight(It's wednesday) - Cosmos & Thai food. Today was a super laxing day. Up to an early start at 10:30, I had the usual cereal and finished writing a few articles. Next thing I know the afternoon has arrived, and the sun still hasn't come out. This is a new record for me, or close to it, for books that I've read in a row: After polishing of "The Perfect Mile" last week, I'm now onto "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". Dad, you called it. That book sums up the way that I've always thought. Hearing those things from some well established individuals only adds fuel to the fire. We are in a totally different time from when our parents grew up, and advice that was applicable back then, doesn't mean as much as it does in today's quickly changing times. I remember around the time of graduation, getting the life hassled out of me to go to University, etc. I've been out of school for about 3 years, and have been self-employed for almost 2 of those. So now, rather then going down the conventional path, I've take my own route, and discovered limitless opportunity. Two years now that I've invested in myself, and not in an institution and a life in the rat race on the corporate ladder. Speculation. We went to a spanish restaurant for lunch. It was cooling off, but we still took the patio, which has been rated best patio in Houston. It was quite choice, although they need to do something about the fruit flies that kept landing in the salsa, and not taking off again. After a few errands, we went to the Deminil museum, which is only a few blocks from Al's house. The Demenil's were a couple that had far too much money (Daughter of Slumberjay), and had a massive collection of artwork. They decided it was neseccary to buy up about three blocks in a nice area of Houston, to showcase their collection to the public. I will give it to Al, that I definitely don't know art for a whole in the wall; but I'm nervously going to say that a hole done the right way would have been more interesting for me to look at then some of the things I saw. The nightmare masks and suits, and some of that I can understand, but the circles on the paper, and the one stripe on that massive canvas? Interesting to say the least, and I feel more rounded already. I was hoping for a Hot Import Nights reunion of a couple wednesday's ago, but unfortunately Karen couldn't make it, and Al didn't feel like racing the Ford so soon after getting it back from the shop. March 16th Half of this day is going to be spent in Houston, half in Edmonton, a Touch in Calgary, and several hours in American airspace. I'm not sure why I broke it up like that, but it does make the day seem a little bit better already. Waking even before my alarm clock, at 4:50am this morning I'm surprisingly well awake given the 3 hours of sleep I have in my system. My hearing in the airport hear has gone especially A wall, and I remind myself that in 6 hours I'm going to be back in Canada with the comforts of Public Health Care. Ryan you monkey - Should have invested the 60$ in travel insurance - Watch me loose my hearing over it. I wouldn't put a price on my hearing, but my uncle just recently lost his house. It's amazing the things we take for granted on a daily basis. That reminds me about those legs that I used to have. I hardly remembed having them, let alone that high that only lactic acid can deliver after punishing them in a half mile. Anticipation and motivation. I'm into it. Stronger Richer Wiser. Citius Altius Ricies. Nolan. You said it. Right now in front of your eyes, you are looking at the plans for your next year. It's right there, or right here rather, and I'm willing to wager that you've missed it. Some text, some graphics, some users, now you're getting excited. I am. Coming off over a month in the States, I'm nervous about meeting Canada, and her Winters in the middle of March. I can't beleive that it's already march, I've yet to see a snow fall worth talking about. Janice would have been great in the winter, but I'm left only to imagine, as G3 Josie and I make mates for the next week. Or two. I'm describing Houston winters as mild and nice. On the cold days it's enough to remind a 20 year old kid of a cool day in New Zealand, and on a hot day, it's enough to keep that same kid up at night. That kid. Flying over the rockies, I'm already nervous about tomorrow. The 17th of March that I'll have seen 21 times, has only suddently stood out over the last quarter of that. It's created a soft spot. But I'll let it until tomorrow, wear green, and leave it. Now in Edmonton, or Sherwood Park rather, I just got back from the Doctor. My ears! I can hear! It's not like I just hear either - My hearing is like twice what it used to be. I know what you're thinking, that because I had bad, and now I've got normal, it seems extra good. Well let me explain what happened. There was far too much ear wax in my ear for the doctor to see what was going on, so he said we needed to flush my ear out. Next minute I'm holding a little basin, have a gown on, and have this massive amount of water being sprayed forcely into my ear. Talk about an experience. It was all overwhelming, and when I saw the amount of ear wax coming out, I was pretty startled. No wonder I couldn't hear. After the fun was over, he took another look inside, and told me I had an infection. Noises like plastic bags and even my fingers typing, are driving my newly virgin ears crazy. Here I am though. 4 hours later, I'm fully back integrated into Edmonton, or Sherwood park rather. Sign me up for some work, the gym, some tea, and some cleaning. The life of the younger one |

Having been gone for a week, I arrived back to my computer with a bit of excitement. a few hundred new emails, which is alot; unless your my dad or something. Emails aside; my leopard skin and I are back from Cancun. Having set a new record of 8 days straight, you might wager I'd have a smile on my face. A smile is the last thing you're going to see though unless my body starts operating normally again. What started out with a foot is now feet, stomach, and ears among others. Nacked and uneasy I went to bed last night at 7:30 pm, and didn't see myself until this morning at 11. That is a stupidly long sleep. I said it. Trying to stomach food, and wake up from my 16 hour sleep, I'm sweating off the richter. It's probably a bit of a fever mixed with 80+ degrees of humid weather in Houston. Today started out with trying to catch up with work, and then some food and the mall. The Puma store was most inviting as always, and with that massive credit on my visa, I'm about ready to go shopping. Actually I best figure out where it came from first. I picked up some ear drops, that are meant to clear out any water caught inside ears, and also aid as a bit of a disinfectant. My hearing has only gotten worse since I started using them, but it's meant to take a day or two to clear up. Might be a scam, but I hope not. My right ear came around on about the 3rd day in Cancun, but my left is probably 90% gone. It's left noises from sources like wind, and bass really distracting, as they create a swirling emotion around me. One thing I did hear: Tonight when eating dinner at a restaurant Al and I were sitting in the middle of two other tables. I could not hear anything from the table to our left, but the one on the right was coming in loud and clear. There was two guys, and a girl. The two guys, were talking really loudly and hard out about renewable fuel sources, gravity fields, and atoms. Here I thought they were inventing a time machine, and was ready to pull out a notepad. What gives? After another couple meals, and tying the rest of my thoughts from Cancun I'm ready for bed. I've got preparation to be done for the 28th, work to be finished, feet to ice, and an ear to clear out. A week of life from the younger one. |

Saturday. Feeling really sub average right now, I find myself scribbling a few bits about the last week. Finding out tonight that Hillary Duff is from Houston might have been the highlight. Lilly, It probably wouldn't be wise to tell your friends, as gelous emotions might fly. Besides unpacking to see my favorite shoes ruined from wet shirt contests and running 4 minute miles with Josh after midnight, it's great to be back in Houston. The second part of today started off at 8:30am, It's early. Our hotel didn't have an alarm clock, and we couldn't rely on a wake up call. That left Josh and I doing the trip into town, to buy one from Wal-Mart. Anyways 8:30. Feeling to nacked to eat, I must have slept for another 30mins while Josh packed and graced the breakfast buffet. Finally I awake, polish my own packing, and proceed to checkout. Talk about scam artists. With the color of my skin I'm surprised they still thought I was a tourist. I easily have local written all over me. We made a clean break, and were done with Club Carroussel. I would tell you that we are done with it forever, but there is odds that 2007 will bring a re-inactment of 2006. Daniel, you monkey - I'm still trying to wrap my head around it, let alone nursing the bruises. The taxi brought us to the airport 4 hours to early. There was major fiasco in the terminal, but Sky service and Contintental were moving right along. Carrying an awkward looking package, I must have gone through security about 5 times, before I was able to rest my feet, and try to find Josh who came in after me. I was famished, but hardly able to stomach the Tomato Basil soup at T.G.I.F. Next time you're there - I wouldn't recommend it; or the wings while we're making a list. Punctual that Josh, split early to catch his flight back to Edmonton and I responded with making my way to Gate A-4. I consider myself a decently seasoned when it comes to airports, and I still can't figure out why I was meant to be at gate A-7. By the time I realized they had made the switch, and was searched one more time I was the last one to board the half empty plane. As I got on the Cute Stewardess told me I could take any seat. When I sat down in a crew seat, she apparently didn't find it as funny as I did. Maybe she just hadn't looked in the mirror for about 5 minutes. Ricies. I did sprawl out across 3 seats though, and pass out for the entire trip. It would have been favorable to get some food and water into my stomach, but at that moment feelings of tired dominated that of hungry. Al was punctual and besides a bit of parking fiasco, was at the terminal when I arrived. I was super hungry and tired, and looking forward to dealing with both of those situations. Al took me over for to another mate's of his, who happens to be from Canada, so that I could spin some yawns and learn more about Work Visa's and moving to Houston. I was keen for that talk, but an hour and a half more hungry later, I was hoping that we could have left it for another night. We stopped for some dinner at a neat style cafe/buffet/something restaurant, before we arrived back on Harold Street. |

PermaLink - Mar 12, 2006
Friday. Pegs not journal about today, but I find myself here anyways. After haggling in a market for the better part of 3 hours, we went to get something to eat. It was meant to be happy hour, which meant two for one drinks. I was up for a margarita if Josh was, so we were away to the races. Our server, that wanker, comes back with 4 margarita's. I looked at Josh, and I was pretty sure that I hadn't ordered two, and neither had he. We settled it though, and polished some nachos. When we asked for the bill, the two for one margarita's cost a fortune, and apparently weren't two for one. They could have said, Happy Hour, Buy one, get the second at another price. Maybe even add on the fact that it's because we're a gringo. Ricies. Maybe Cancun just made me super cheap; you said it Josh. I had bought at the market enough to keep both of our hands full, and we new that if we had any plans of making the aiport in the morning we would need to buy an alarm clock. Standing on a packed bus, holding bags, during rush hour, across town, uphill - both ways. ricies. We did get the alarm clock, and a backup battery, and the that was that. When we got back to the Hotel Josh was bagged. So was I. I couldn't be stuffed sleeping though, as I figure it would kill the last night in Cancun. I went to the bar by the beach where they were playing a pretty lively game of name that tune. I had a few Corona's, and talked with some people I met over the last few days. Everyone was going to a night club called the City, and I figured I could sign myself up for it as well; last night went to the pits when Shena couldn't handle her drinks. By the time I got Josh awake and we decided we would go, the group was out the door, and we had to make a break for it. I didn't even have the money for cover yet, so I had to run quickly to an a.t.m. next door. I'll give Josh some good credit for waking up from a nap and making Go Time a reality. Normally with the packages it was no line when we went out. "The City" is meant to be the biggest night club in Cancun, and after we finally got inside 30mins later, I could see why. Heaps of the clubs in Cancun, are a "Las Vegas style show" mixed with a night club. The first night I was unsure about it, but it's actually super cool. The city had a massive dance floor in the middle, with two levels all around it. In the center of the dance floor was two raised circular platforms. One you could dance on, and the other had the shows on it. There was super cool acts. Like people doing one arm handstands on top of someone elses head. Also some crazy good dancing, and cute girls. I don't remember quite why we left the city, but it was about 2am when we got back to our hotel. Josh wanted to go to sleep, and I was still on Go Time, so I left him and made my way into the other town, the real Cancun City. It took me a while to figure out where I was going, and had some good yawns with random taxi drivers. I hung out at a club where there was also some Las Vegas Style shows. I was feeling pretty bagged, and not really into it, but the guy next to me started talking to me, and we spun yawns until about 5:30. I remember him telling me that when I left I would be surprised to see daylight. He was right. Getting out of the Club that early, and in the middle of morning rush hour, was a day and night (Ricies) difference from when I entered the night before. The buses didn't run until 6, so I had 30minutes of walking to do, before I had hopes of catching one. I figure I walked about half of the way back by the time I saw the first bus. I hopped on, and the rest is tomorrow. |
| Cancun - Day 5 |
PermaLink - Mar 12, 2006
Thursday. Josh and I had planned to go on a day trip to the island today, but our wake up call never came. The trip sounded super cool: It was all inclusive drinks and food, and included snorkeling, para-sailing, and even some swimming with sharks tour. Would have been great, but we didn't wake up until noon. When wake up calls go bad. A girl that I used to run with ages ago, and who Josh presently/recently works with is staying in Playa Del Carmen. Her and her mate, were getting into Cancun at around 6:30, so our day was mostly planned around getting to their Hotel at that time. We met them, Shena and Janelle, a little bit later then planned, after spending some time with mother nature, and sorting out where to go. While the two of them were trying to get ready, the power kept going out, so Josh and I made a quick run to the local convenience store. Sol and some Chips, we were back, and about an hour later we were ready to go into town. We were all keen to go to Coco Bongo, and that is where we went. A walk and a bus later we found ourselves waiting in a fairly sizeable line-up to get in. With a 40$ cover charge, they were doing a sizeable business. Coco Bongo is meant to be one of the best clubs in Cancun, known around the world for live broadway shows, and huge atmosphere. If you've seen the movie the mask, and can remember Jim Carrey tearing up the night club, Coco Bongo, is the one! The music was crazy good, the shows were excellent, and just as I was getting into it, about 30 minutes later, we had to go. I can't say that I noticed Shena feeling not well when we first went out, but at Coco Bongo it was extremely noticeable, and when she really started to get sick, we just barely got out in time. It was a bit of a mess and probably the most bad style that I've had in a while. I wasn't in to it. We caught a cab back to their hotel and Shena went to bed instantly. Josh and I were still in the middle of a huge go time, and hungry at that. We made two runs to the nearest Oxxo. The swimming makes more sense to me then Josh wearing those shorts on the second Oxxo Run. Josh, what was with those shorts? Bawling. Thursday Polished. |

PermaLink - Mar 12, 2006
Wednesday. Cashing in a marathon sleep, Josh and I got a late start in the p.m. to the day. After a 5 star lunch, we caught some sunrays and listened to our respective ipods. Josh, that kid can eat. After about an hour we both felt it was fair to let the rest of Cancun get some sun so we made our way to the snack bar. While we were eating a hamburger, they were taking down the volleyball net, to make way for a soccer game. We must have watched for about 25 minutes before I decided I wanted to have a go. I've got a buggered stomach and am in for surgery next month, but if you've ever seen Charlie and the Chocolate factory you'll know what I'm talking about: After having candy waved in your face your whole life, there becomes a point where you just have to have one. Either you wind up with toffee stuck in your braces, or you start the biggest chocholate factory in the world. Either way, I was into the soccer, and although sore, my body was holding out. It was alot of fun. Must have played for a couple hours, by the time I was too stuffed and tripping over the ball. I went over the top of my inside two toes on my left foot about middway. I knew I had gone over, but I didn't feel it at the time. After the game was over though I knew it was buggered, and the top of my second toe was bruised on the top. Drag a leg sticker, here I am. We probably swam for an hour after that. Josh and I doing underwater laps. Fun. I said it. Outside enjoying a Corona with some people that we met, I found myself telling alot of bad jokes, nick's jokes, ricies. Josh, I couldn't tell what kind of night he was in for. It was the mindbender that is for sure. We went inside after the outside area shut down. Josh and I played a game of pool on the Fischer-Price table, and enjoy some yawns with a loony tunes European. I hustled Josh, and he figured he could take me. I told him to rack them, and he said yep, as long as I don't mind if he plays with his cane. I gave him a super funny, and long look, before saying yep. He was terrible with the Cane, and before the game was finished Josh was back with a pizza, and I couldn't be stuffed playing him anymore. We sat down in the lobby, and the Pizza was terrible. I remember saying that it smelt like dog or something. Now if it was a chicken pizza, and we were in Korea, that might have made sense to me; cheese and in Cancun - Terrible. Next thing I know the Couple that we had been spinning yawns with before are in our face and fighting over a pack of smokes. I think Josh and I both ricied them, but when she fell on the floor, I was easily thinking wtf, and questioning the situation. She said that she didn't trust going to her room alone to get her own pack of smokes, so she asked that we would go with her. I was game if Josh was. So we walked up. Second Floor, and next thing I know they're still going at it in the Hotel Room, where her son and girlfriend are sleeping. This deserves a wtf again, and I told the kids they should get out, and got the mom and her boyfriend to seperate as well. It was full out Jerry Springer style and I was into it. Josh is a better witness of time then I was, but what felt like 10 minutes wound up being an hour, and she was just was unloading information left right and central. She was obviously a little bit loony tunes, as was her boyfriend, and you might even sign me up in that category as well. All I wanted her to realize that no matter who was doing what, or what the past was, all that she had was today, and if he's the one at fault, or she is, the choice is pretty black and white. Josh left the scene about 10 minutes before the boxing gloves came out. I left the room shortly after Josh did, and was outside sitting on a bench, partly trying to put my thoughts and the situation together. I spun yawns with a few british guys I'd met the day before, and told them what was going on, and I didn't know what was going to happen. The two kids came out and I talked with them for a minute. I just told them, I'm sorry, and that I was only kicking because I wanted them to be alright. All of a sudden the door to their room bursts open, and Daniel the mom's boyfriend rages out and says to me "You think I'm going to hurt them", I knew my words had been twisted and things were going awry so I made a bolt down the hallway. Jerry's got a respectable set of wheels when he needs them. I knew that everything from the pack of smokes at the beginning to being their at the end had been blown out of proportion, and it would be sweet the next day. It was. A sore foot, sore hamstrings, and now arms - Wednesday Polished. |

PermaLink - Mar 12, 2006
Sunday. After a huge night on the town last, their was some sleep owed, and sleep taken. A super cruisy day. Some shopping, and wandering around, and mostly just trying to sort out everything with our hotel, and trying to stomach a couple more meals. Keep drinking, Al said it. Tonight we decided to try out going out with group, as they were going to two places. We chose "Basic - Discotheque", which is meant to be crazy on Sunday nights, and is a huge dance club, with like water, etc. I spent a good amount of time right away spinning yawns with one of the Bud Light Models. To put it simply she was super righteous. Out of all the nights in Cancun, Josh and I had the biggest night at the same time in Cancun at the Basic; It was off the wall. The highlights: - Initial Bud light Conference [10mins] - Losing Josh [60mins] - Me dancing at that bar [30mins] - Josh watching the dance floor [30mins] - Josh & I watching the Dance floor [60mins] Some how I lost a day in here, and that is why this journal is 1, 2 & 3. I know the above is right, but I can't sort out what was what on the next two days/nights. What I do remember is catching sum rays, eating more bad food, and then on one of the nights going out to a strip mall, like 30 mins out of Cancun that has 21 Clubs at it. The clubs, weren't as memorable as Josh and I getting home. We must have ran about 3 miles in no more then 12 minutes before we caught a cab, in which we both passed out in, on our way back to the hotel. That night.... |
| Cancun - Day 0 |
PermaLink - Mar 12, 2006
Saturday. Arriving in Cancun and meeting Josh at the airport was up there. Not really so much me being in Mexico, but going to a resort for a week with Josh definitely was. I'm being nice to call Club Carrousel because it was actually terrible. Check in time was 3pm, and we didn't get our room for about 45mins later. I'm not sure if it was because I haggled with the guy about our room, or what, but when we finally got upstairs to it, it was terrible. two off-sized beds, puke color bed spreads, a dungeon bathroom, and a window facing the front road. That was a pretty big kick, knowing that 90% of the rooms are facing the back(the beach/pool), and have balconies. We had missed the lunch time trying to check-in, so we got something to eat at the snack-bar. If you can picture a bad cafeteria hamburger, and average fries, that is what I ate. Terrible. I would almost say it was an un-easy feeling being their that first day, because most people had been their already a few, and didn't need a towel behind the ears as we did. Trying to figure out meal times, and who was who, took a couple days. Everynight, their is a couple entertainers that organize both the daily events, but also the trips into various clubs. It's a pretty dear cover, like $40 usd. They were going to Coco Bongo that night, which I did want to go to, but I was more keen to check out the local town, rather then follow our hotel group around into the heart of tourist city.
